Team: 12U Dakota Refrigeration (DRI)
Years of Experience Coaching Fastpitch: 1 Year
We are excited to recognize Andrew Curtis, one of our dedicated coaches who has made a tremendous impact on his players this season. Andrew works for Dakota Refrigeration (DRI), and we’d like to highlight the positivity and passion he brings both on and off the field.
Andrew has been married to his wife, Becky, for 21 years, and together they have two children, Brynna (15) and Bailey (13). Family is at the center of his life—whether it’s attending car shows, teaching his kids math, or enjoying time outdoors biking (mountain, road, and gravel) and upland hunting. Growing up in Fargo, Andrew spent much of his youth on a bike, riding daily and everywhere, and that energy and love for activity still fuels him today.
As a coach, Andrew’s philosophy is centered on growth, positivity, and teamwork. He believes the true measure of success isn’t just in winning games, but in watching players develop—learning the game, building confidence, and working together as a team. He encourages players to keep a positive attitude even when the scoreboard isn’t in their favor, and he takes time after games to both address areas of improvement and celebrate successes.
Andrew emphasizes positivity as the most important trait in coaching. When a player makes a mistake, he uses it as a teaching moment rather than a setback—asking players what they saw, then helping them understand what to adjust. This approach builds confidence and resilience, allowing players to grow through challenges.
This season, Andrew worked closely with several new players, helping them gain comfort both at the plate and in the field. He dedicated extra time to make sure they felt confident and supported as they learned the fundamentals of the game. As a first-year coach, Andrew also poured effort into his own development, studying the rule book, seeking advice from experienced coaches and players, and diving into resources on mechanics—especially pitching.
For Andrew, the legacy he hopes to leave behind is clear: to instill the value of teamwork in his players. He wants them to take the lessons learned on the field—communication, perseverance, and working together—and carry those skills into adulthood to build successful careers and lives.
We are grateful for Andrew’s commitment, positivity, and passion for teaching. His impact extends far beyond the diamond, and we are proud to recognize him for the difference he is making in the lives of young athletes.
