February Small Group Development Sessions

Get personalized training in small group settings with experienced instructors to help you sharpen your fastpitch skills. These sessions are designed to focus on fundamentals while ensuring a fun learning environment.

Ages: 8-18U

Location: The ATTIC (1892 17th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58103)

Group Size: Max 6 players

Pitching with Samantha Whitworth

Focus Areas: Mechanics, grip, command, velocity development, and the mental approach to pitching.

Session Details:

Dates: February 3, 5, 10, 12, 16, and 23 (6 sessions)
Cost: $175.00

Times:

Please note: Times for February 16 and 23 differ from the other sessions. Groups 1-3 include all 6 sessions.

*For the pitching sessions, we ask that each pitcher bring a catcher, whether it's a teammate, guardian, or friend, to help maintain a smooth flow and enhance the camp experience. If bringing a catcher isn't feasible, please still register, as we encourage participation. Catchers do not need to register. However, if the catcher is 17 or younger and did not participate in Fargo Area Fastpitch during the 2024 season, a guardian will need to sign a waiver prior to the camp. Hitting/Infield Defense Sessions with Cora Zackrison (Tuesday)

Focus: Half of each session will be focused on infield defense and the other half will be focused on hitting.

Infield Defense: Fundamentals of fielding ground balls, footwork, glove work, and throwing accuracy.

Hitting: Fundamentals of stance, grip, swing mechanics, strength, and power development.

Dates: 2/4, 2/11, 2/18 (3 sessions)

Cost: $90.00

Group 5 (Ages 12-14): 5:00 PM – 5:55 PM

Hitting Sessions with Cora Zackrison (Thursday)

Focus: Fundamentals of stance, grip, swing mechanics, strength, and power development.

Dates: 2/6, 2/13, 2/20 (3 sessions)

Cost: $90.00

Group 6 (Ages 15-18): 5:00 PM – 5:55 PM

Catcher Defense with Zach Frazier (Monday)

Focus: Stance, receiving, blocking, footwork, and throwing mechanics.

Dates: 2/3, 2/10 (2 sessions)

Cost: $60.00

Group 7 (Ages 9-11): 4:00 PM – 4:55 PM

If a session is unavailable, it may be fully booked. Families may be contacted to explore alternative arrangements if group numbers are low.

Meet the Instructors:

Samantha Whitworth

Samantha Whitworth is in her first season as MSUM’s assistant softball coach.

Whitworth comes to Moorhead following a stint as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Saint Katherine during the 2023-24 season. She was primarily in charge of working with the pitchers for the Firebird program. The Firebirds twirled 18 complete games in 2024 and logged 247 innings pitched overall.

As a player, Whitworth enjoyed a solid career for University of Saint Katherine from 2020 to 2023. She started 36 career games for the Firebirds throughout her career for a total of 153 innings pitched. Whitworth struck out 60 batters in her career and logged 11 complete games. In 2022, Whitworth was named the program’s Champion of Character award winner. She was also a member of the Firebird team that claimed a Cal Pac Conference Tournament championship in 2021.

Prior to her career at Saint Katherine, Whitworth spent two seasons pitching for America River College (Sacramento, Calif.). While a member of the Beavers, Whitworth saw 31 starts in 42 appearances and was a team captain both seasons. She concluded her career with the Beavers with a 4.56 ERA. As a true freshman, Whitworth logged four complete games in 17 starts with 49 strikeouts and a save.

As a prep player for Alhambra High School, Whitworth was named an All-League Most Valuable Player, helping her team to three conference championships.

Cora Zackrison

Cora brings over 9 years of experience coaching youth and travel ball and 5 years at the collegiate level. She is an ASA Certified Softball Coach with a BA in Exercise Science from Concordia College, where she also played 4 years of collegiate softball and served as team captain. Cora went on to earn her MA in Leadership from the University of Jamestown and has held coaching positions at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort and Northland College.

Zach Frazier

A former 4-year starting catcher at the University of Minnesota-Crookston, Zach ranks 4th in games started, 6th in RBIs, and 2nd in fielding percentage for the program. He also spent two summers playing for the Weyburn Beavers in the Western Major Baseball League.
